A Holistic Approach to Overcoming Challenges

A cozy office corner featuring a comfortable chair, a picture hanging on the wall, and a bookshelf filled with books.

My clients come to me with a variety of challenges, like:

  • Feeling disconnected from their bodies, relationships, and communities

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Creative blocks

  • Difficulty navigating significant life transitions

  • Inability to move on from unresolved events from the past

  • Conflict between being a mother and managing their career

  • Spiritual issues

And maybe you can relate to one — or several — of these issues.

You’ve done everything right and worked hard to build the life you have. The many demands of a modern life are difficult to juggle — especially for women — but you managed to rise to the challenge.

But life shifts in unexpected ways, and that can be disorienting. As your children leave the nest, a pivotal relationship dissolves, or your career path requires you to move in a new direction, the identity you associated with those things tends to come into question.

You may be asking yourself questions like:

>> Who am I without all my roles?

>> What do I want to do with the next phase of my life?

>> Why do I feel blocked, yet unable to pinpoint the cause?

And inquiries like these can springboard a person
into
rich self-discovery.

While these moments of uncertainty — where who you believe yourself to be feels incongruent with the life you’re living — can be unsettling,  it’s that friction that can drive you into a deeper understanding of who you truly are and what you really want.

Past Experiences with Therapy

Maybe you’ve tried therapy in the past. (Most of my clients do have experience with therapy before they begin their work with me.) Some of them have been in and out of therapy for decades and although they experienced the benefits of talking through the issues that were most present in their lives — many don’t feel a lasting change.

The Need for an Integrative Approach

That’s why my practice is built upon an integrative approach to therapy. I have experienced in my own life and witnessed in my clients’ lives that talking through the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors that seem to be the cause of the problem, doesn’t often get to the root of the problem.

Human beings are complex and multi-faceted; healing happens in relationship to others, and all the different parts of self. Incorporating the body and the spirit is often the missing link that can drastically improve therapeutic outcomes.

What is an integrative approach to therapy?

In Western culture, we’re hyper-focused on the workings of the mind. Historically, treating mental health challenges has been approached with various forms of talk therapy to identify and change unpleasant emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. While that’s a great place to start, human beings are multi-faceted and complex. Addressing just one aspect of the human experience disregards the interconnectivity of the whole system which encompasses mind, body, and spirit.

An integrative approach to therapy incorporates multiple techniques and modalities rather than a singular school of thought.

Access Your Wholeness

With INTEGRATIVE THERAPY, WE GAIN INSIGHT INTO THE WHOLE HUMAN experience, uncovering what lies beneath the surface.

In my practice, I draw from multiple evidence-based techniques that help strengthen the mind-body connection based on each client’s individual needs.

Using a combination of psychodynamic approaches, depth psychology and Somatic Experiencing®, you are able to familiarize yourself with the ways that the mind influences the body and the body influences the mind.

The mind, the body, and the pathways between the two create a fascinating and intelligent system. Learning the language of that system can transform the way you see yourself and your place in the world around you. The use of multiple therapeutic techniques and modalities that address the totality of who you are as a human being is the basis of an effective, integrative approach to therapy.

Hi, I’m Maryem Irias

Depth Psychotherapist and Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner.

I support women in reconnecting to their bodies where they can access forgotten or lost parts of the self and begin the process of integration and healing. Using a holistic approach to mental health, I utilize several evidence-based techniques to create custom treatment tailored to your individual needs.

My personal quest to parse through the complexities of the human experience and explore my own consciousness has informed my integrative approach to therapy. The framework of my education and training at Pacifica Graduate Institute was based on the tradition of Depth Psychology, pioneered by Carl Jung. This approach explores the subtle, unconscious aspects of the human experience to identify how individual character traits and universal patterns may influence your natural processes and behaviors.

There is access to a much deeper understanding of yourself if you’re willing to dig beneath the surface of your ordinary awareness.

To do this effectively, I work with you to reconnect with your body so that you can increase the space and capacity within yourself to embody the insights that you discover.

If you’re here,
you’re seeking solutions.

This work will challenge you.
AND it will change you. It will give you access to your authentic self.

You want help facing a problem in your life. I’d like to offer a reframe. The friction from incongruence with your true self can motivate deeper self-connection. If you're ready to approach this with curiosity and compassion, let's see if we're a good fit.
